Sony has not completely given up on the PlayStation Vita from a first party perspective it seem, as Gio Corsi on twitter revealed that Sony has stepped to the plate to ensure completion of the Vita port of The Banner Saga.
This announcement comes shortly after the Austin based developer Stoic announced it was putting the Vita port on the “back burner” because of budgetary issues concerning the team initially contracted to complete the console ports of the Banner Saga for Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
Sony to avoid the vita missing out on the popular strategy game has partnered with indie publisher Versus Evil to pick up where Stoic left off when the back burnered the port.
As Sony’s Director of Third Party Production & Development Relations;Sony’s third-party arm that typically works behind the scenes to get promising games onto its various platforms, Corsi appears to be keen on becoming the bridge between Sony and its Vita fanbase, which has been aching for some first party titles, but has been left twisting in the wind mostly. Heck the system might have already died if not for some excellent third party title and healthy indie support.
But Corsi is working to dispose of those thoughts with this announcement and others at the latest Playstation experience which aims to keep hoping westerners on board with the notion that Sony still has plans for the handheld console outside of Japan where support is strong.
The Banner Saga is a strategy RPG with a norse-inspired story that launch to commercial success and critical acclaim back in 2014 when it was release for the PC, Mac, and mobile devices. The story is set to continue next year with The Banner Saga 2 and next month console players will get to experience the epic story for the first time.
